These mnemonic techniques were originally invented by the ancient Greeks. We sometimes want to call those “tricks” even though we should be  aware that they just follow the natural flow of the brain, not only using our linear left brain hemisphere, but also involve right brain action. Properly used the power of memory can be improved dramatically. And – these days everybody is bombarded with information, on of the solutions besides focusing of course is to develop better mnemonic techniques.

Your skill level will improve dramatically as you will be able to recall important information pieces instantly. Naturally the brain works best with using association with past knowledge, connection with our old skills, dramatic exaggeration, colourful and sensual images in the brain. If you keep practising those skills  – which are a learning task too at first, since you never established these after having lost the natural skill in conventional school learning – the reward will be amazing.

And – its not only the memory which improves – you will also get a much deeper and better understanding of the facts you implement in head.

So some awareness of how to learn new information is the best and most important skill you should have before even picking up the the “science book”. I will give some examples of these learning mnemonic skills in my next blogs.

Cheers Dirk
