I’ve never been very enthusiastic about brain jogging or brain gym techniques. To be honest it obviously belongs to my point of interest in brain science, still I was never really motivated to get into it. I had my other learning tools working for me so brain gym of brain gymnastics sound a little bit boring to me on first sight.

That was true until lately when a question in Eben Pagan`s Blog made me think about a certain topic.

He asked his readers  “What’s your Best idea for a quick break?” Even though I felt a little bit guilty since I already dropped two ideas to this blog, my mind was still working on a third answer. Writing my best idea would normally only leave room for one answer.

Well, a working mind is a working mind and I couldn’t stop it anymore. You can go and read the other two ideas Idropped there if you want plus the ideas of many other people; here I will only focus on my third and final answer:-).

Well, knowing that Eben Pagan develops information products and therefore is a head worker most of the time it would have to be something where there is movement involved, so I thought.

Even though I’m pretty sure Eben Pagan knows about brain science, the two halves of the brain and our tendency, only to use one half while we are working with our intellectual capacities. Also he would be aware of the possibilities to avoid that; but even then it is still very likely than at one stage of his work he would also step into this common trap, too.

What expectations for a break could he have?

One  reason for taking a break  is probably feeling some kind of tiredness; the second very smart reason would be to give your subconscious time to work on the process, so you can start on a higher level afterwards when the material is “sorted in”.  The third reason could be that as I mentioned we can easily step into the trap of just using only one of our brain half and therefore feel “uncentered” or not “whole“.

This doesn’t feel good and on a subconscious level we are often trying to escape this condition. In order to  feel “whole” again my third and final best suggestion for a quick break would be doing some brain gym. Because it is more than a little entertaining tool one can impress others with on several occasions. Some of those exercises can – more importantly – help you activate both sides of your brain and synchronise them.

So what are the exact exercises for a powerful break:

You can stand or sit. Put the right hand across the body to the left knee as you raise it; do the same movement with the left hand on the right knee as if you were marching. Do this for 2-3 minutes. The second good exercise afterwards would be drawing a lying “8″ on an empty piece of paper or at least in your minds eye.

After those exercises your mental efficiency should have raised a level and you can go back to work energized.
